Richard H. Newsome, the son of Calvin and Pearlie Newsome, was born April 1, 1930, in a small town in southeast Alabama.

Having graduated from Dale County Schools in 1949, he entered the Air Force in Oct. 1950, serving four years in Hawaii, and married Betty Bradshaw. He attended George C. Wallace Trade School at Napier Field Alabama to learn Optical Mechanics for 18 months; later this became his livelihood. While living in the South, Richard & Betty had their first child, Leslie, in 1955. The family moved to Oklahoma in 1956, where Richard continued in the optical business. In 1963, son, Alan, was born. Richard retired in 2005.

Preceded in death by daughter, Leslie; his parents; two brothers and one sister; he leaves behind his loving family: wife, Betty; son, Alan; six sisters, Imogene, Virginia, Margaret, June, Elaine, and Judy; two grandchildren, Sean and Stacy; son-in-law, Leon Rogers; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in the Paylor Family Funeral Care Chapel, 412 N. Air Depot Blvd., Midwest City, OK, followed by interment at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City, OK.
