Urbana—Raymond S. Smith, 72, of Westville, died at 5:20 a.m.Saturday in his residence following an extended illness.
He was born June 10, 1893, the son of Earl and Elizabeth Sargent Smith, and had resided in the Westville area all of his life. He operated a dairy farm south of Westville for a number of years and his dairy products won many ribbons at the Ohio State Fair. He was a member of the American Jersey Cattle Club, and was a graduate of Ohio State University in 1915. I 1940 he and his son Hugh founded the Smith Farm and Equipment Co. in Westville. At the time of his retirement, in 1958, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Farm Equipment Association, a member of the Westville Methodist church and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Johnson Smith; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Raga) Clyborn of Westville; two sons, Hugh, who continues the farm equipment business, and Earl of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and 14 grandchildren.
His body was taken to the Neff-Walter Funeral Home in Urbana here friends may call from 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday afternoon and evening. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in. The funeral home with the Rev. Grady Rogers and Rev. Emerson Fox officiating.
Burial will be in Nettle Creek Cemetery.
