Chesteen married Betty E Salsman in the late 1950's and later remarried to Charlice Dean in 1983, both are still living.

Chesteen VanMeter, age 75, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Friday, (November 15, 2013) at his home in Leitchfield, KY. He was born on August 8, 1938 in Leitchfield, the son of the late Nathan Boone and Angie Decker VanMeter. He was a member of the Leitchfield Volunteer Fire Department for 52 years. He helped in the Crusade for Children each year, and loved his family of fire department brothers. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his dog, Maggie. He attended Potter's Hope Ministries. He is survived by his wife, Charlice Dean VanMeter of Leitchfield; one son, Roger Dale VanMeter; one step-son, Richard Decker; one brother, Randy and his wife, Sue VanMeter; one sister, Florence Decker; five grandchildren, Kelly, Diana, Tyler, Bethany, and Jessica; one great-grandson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carlos and Eltie Decker; numerous nieces and nephews; and all his brothers at the fire department. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Beverly Louise VanMeter, and fifteen brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, (November 16, 2013) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Wayne Clemons and Chaplain Clinton Abner will be officiating. Burial will be in the McGrew Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
