Death notice from the Sept. 19, 1896 Evening Star (Washington D.C.):

"Death of E.C. Minetree---Mr. E.C. Minetree, general agent of the Southern Railway Company at Jacksonville, Fla., and brother of J.P. Minetree, purchasing agent of the Southern, with headquarters in this city, died last night on a train of the Plant system while between Jacksonville and Savannah. The deceased was up to a few months ago chief clerk to the traffic manager of the Southern railway system when he was appointed to the position he occupied at the time of his death.

Mr. Minetree had been feeling badly for several weeks, but his condition was not considered alarming, and his family, who were stopping for the summer near Norfolk, were not even informed that he was ill. He was on his way to join them when stricken down by death.

The deceased was about 38 years old, and leaves a widow and four children. It is expected that the interment will take place at Alexandria, Va."

He was buried on Sept. 21, 1896.

(Note: More information below has been provided by an anonymous contributor):

Edwin C. Minetree married to Victoria Moore (ca. 1861-?) of Norfolk, VA. The 1880 census confirms that an Edward C. Minstree (a misspelling) resided as a boarder in the Moore home in Norfolk, while working as a clerk. Victoria's gravesite also remains unknown; however, two of his children Mary Minetree George and Gladys Minetree Cartwright are both buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
