Henry was the son of William Buhrlage, Sr., and Elizabeth Killion. Early in his adult life he worked in the furniture business, most likely at the furniture companies owned by his father. Henry died of a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 61.
Note: His father died in 1893 and in 1894 his mother married Julius Eschmann who had once been William's business partner.
