On 25 April 1944, their Beaufort Aircraft went missing over Bass Strait on a night over-water training flight. Only the body of SL John MacPherson was later recovered & buried in Sale War Cemetery. The other crew are remembered with Memorials at the Sydney Memorial Rookwood.

He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in Mullaley NSW, also his name is located at panel 112 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
Son of John and Agnes MacPherson; husband of Mary Gertrude MacPherson, of Mullaley, New South Wales.
