He was born June 10, 1912 in the Town of Schleswig, son of the late Charles and Mary (Schneider) Meyer. Sylvan attended SS. Peter and Paul Grade School. On October 15, 1935 Sylvan married the former Margaret Junk at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Cleveland. The couple enjoyed 52 years together before Margaret preceded him in death on September 10, 1987. Sylvan and his wife farmed in the Town of Schleswig until 1973 when they moved to Kiel. He also worked for August Ehnert & Son and J.B. Laun for a number of years. He was a lifetime member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. Sylvan enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and raising geraniums.
Survivors include his children; Jean (Wayne) Stauss of Howards Grove, Anna Mae (Gerald) Schmitz of Sheboygan, Fran (Al) Steiner of Chilton, Gerald (Sharyn) Meyer of rural Kiel, Betty (Lee) Karls of Kiel. 21 Grandchildren, 39 Great Grandchildren, two Sisters; Sister Mary Dolores Meyer of Manitowoc, Rose (Paul) Holschbach of DePere, Brother-in-law; Ray Klabechek of Sheboygan.
He was preceded in death by 2 infant daughters; Caroline and Theresa, Four Brothers; Henry, Ralph, Walter, and Joseph, Four Sisters; Florence Seichter, Sister Alice Meyer, Gertie Muehlbauer, Romilda Stemper, a great granddaughter; Lilly Stauss. He was also preceded in death by Brothers-in-law; Joseph and John Junk, Nicholas (Leona) Junk, Sister-in-law; Marie Klabechek,
Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday June 6, 2007 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Loren Nys S.D.S. officiating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St., Kiel on Wednesday from 11:00am until 1:30pm when we will have brief family rites. A memorial has been established in Sylvan's name for SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Sylvan's family would like to give a special Thank You to the Staff at Caregivers Home Health and the Calumet Homestead for the wonderful care given to him.
