He was employed by Mack Trucks Inc., retiring in 1985. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of First Brethren Church. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 1936, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and AMVETS Post 10.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marcella Jean Avey Cooper; three daughters, Patricia A. Supplee of Honeybrook, Pa., Aleta M. Jones of Hagerstown and Mary Sue Hartman of Mercersburg, Pa.; three sons, William E. Cooper of Smithsburg, David A. Cooper of Hagerstown and Kerry L. Cooper of Ijamsville, Md.; one sister, Julia M. Hummelsine of Hagerstown; two brothers, Gerald F. Cooper and Richard H. Cooper, both of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Stoddard and Kathleen Brumbaugh, and two brothers, Leon Cooper and Raymond Cooper.
Services were held at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home in Hagerstown. (Obituary says: Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown) - but burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.
