Bettye Mae Pozniakoff, 88, of Crystal Lake, passed away April 24, 2010, in McHenry.
She was born Aug. 29, 1921, in Akron, Ohio. While living in Holland, she was taken to Germany and became a prisoner of war of Liebenau Prisoner Camp, from about 14-18 years old, and was traded for two German officers. She came back and worked for Boeing, working on bomber planes. She also was a nurse's aide for more than 30 years, working for the Illinois State Mental Health Department. She was known to her CB Radio buddies as "the Little Rebel." She lived life with joy and care, and was a service to mankind.
She is survived by her beloved children, Theodore (Rita), Robin, Claudia (Alan Gaines), Eugene and Timothy (Janice) Ingel; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Simonetta; her cherished grandchildren, Jack Boucek, Sean Pozniakoff, Evan Pozniakoff and Robyn; her dear great-grandchildren, Keely Seyller, River Seyller and Syles Tucker Pozniakoff; and her dearest sisters-in-law Sissy Bakker and Shirley Bakker. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Theodore; her loving son, Radley; her cherished grandson, Shane; and her dear brothers, John and Robert Bakker.
The visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte 176), Crystal Lake. Interment will follow in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Hampshire.
