Sherry Passed away on Feb 13 2011, she was born on March 16, 1962 at St. David's Hospital in Austin to Jack and Melba King. Very early in her life she was confirmed as an Episcopalian, Her younger years were spent in San Antonio. She was very active playing basketball, cheerleading, ice skating, and whenever time permitted she was on the track racing go-carts. She attended Clark high school where she was the co-captain of the drill team. She Graduated from Clark in 1980. Racing was a very large part of sherry's life starting with go-carts throughout central Texas, progressing to driving Modified and Stock series cars. With Sponsors ranging from La Quinta to Budweiser, Sherry was able to achieve a level of racing that only 2 other women in history have done; making her one of the first 3 woman professional drivers in NASCAR history. Sherry married Brian Jeffery Blakley in June of 1981, their son Jef was born Feb of 85. After departing from the life of racing, Sherry spent the remainder of her life in North Carolina, selling BMWs for Flow in Winston Salem. Sherry is survived by son, Jef Blakley; mother, Melba King; sister, Meshelle Rives, and brother, Jack King. Sherry was a very special and beloved individual who will always be in our hearts and will be dearly missed. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from twelve o'clock in the afternoon until one o'clock in the afternoon, Saturday, the 19th of February at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78752. Graveside services will be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon, Saturday following the visitation at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
