Eddie Joe Powers passed away peacefully at his home in Leavenworth on May 31, 2013.

He was born on July 3, 1946 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Edward Earl and Clara Genevieve Powers.

Raised in Leavenworth, Eddie attended the Leavenworth public schools and graduated in 1965 then joined the Leavenworth National Guard. From 1968 to 1969 as part of the United States Army he served in Vietnam in the supply division. After returning home from the war, Eddie worked at the Veteran's Administration Center in Leavenworth in the supply division, retiring from there after more than 28 years. Eddie was a Life Member of the VFW and past Commander of Leavenworth VFW Post #56 and remained a life member of American Legion Post #23.

In 1968, Eddie married Marilyn Blauvelt. They had one daughter, Jody. For many years, they lived on a farm near Tonganoxie where Eddie enjoyed being involved in Jody's school and extra-curricular activities. Eddie later moved into Leavenworth, purchasing a home across the street from his parents. He took great pride in his home and yard, and the proximity to his parents was a great blessing to them as they grew older. He was a frequent visitor at the Medical Lodge, when his father was a resident there, and got to know many of the other patients and employees. From 1998-2004, Eddie worked at Price Chopper in the Seafood Department. He was dedicated to doing his best and enjoyed visiting with customers. Eddie also enjoyed taking road trips. He made several trips over the years to Texas to visit his brother and sister and their families. Eddie made friends wherever he went. He was one of those people who never knew a stranger.

During the past several years, Eddie's health prevented him from doing some of the things he enjoyed, but he kept a positive attitude about it. He was so appreciative of friends and family members who would call, or stop by to visit, or give him rides.

Eddie is survived by his daughter, Jody Kendrick and his 3 grandchildren, Hailey, Gracie, and David Kendrick all of Basehor, his brother, David Powers of Riverton, Utah, and his sister, Sarah Powers Baldwin, of Baytown, Texas, as well as 7 nieces and nephews, 4 cousins, and many other friends and family members.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday June 5, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, with a memorial service immediately following at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Eddie requested that memorials be sent to the Leavenworth Lion's Club - Ed Powers scholarship fund. Condolences may sent to www.davisfuneralchapelinc.com
