Charles Leslie Rogers was
born at Athensville, Ill., May
18, 1886 and passed away at
Storm Lake, Iowa June 25,
1962 at the age of 76 years
1 month and 7 days. Charles
was the seventh child born
to George W. and Sophia
Mayberry Rogers, who farmed in
Reedhouse, Ill. area. He grew
to manhood there and on August
26, 1908 was united in
Holy Matrimony to Mira
Wade at Chesterfield, Ill. To
this union five children were
born; Harold who died in infancy;
Olin, who died at 2 l/2
years; and Vera, Mrs Harold
Schultze of Cedar Falls; Mary
Evelyn, Mrs Al Korwes of
Fonda; and Elwyn of Webb,
who survive.
Charlie, as he was known
to all who loved him, brought
his family to Iowa over 40
years ago, where he farmed
in the Newell and Fonda area
ifor many years. Later, the
family moved into Newell
and he was employed at the
Adams Feed Store and his final
employment was with the
Bayes Hatchery and Implement.
He was a kind and loving
husband and father, always
more mindful of others than
of himself. He faithfully attended
his wife in her last illness
until he suffered a stroke
in August 1955, from which
he never fully recovered.
During the years of his affliction
he was patient, uncomplaining,
and cheerful. He greatly
enjoyed his grandchildren and
great-grandsons and took an
interest in all their activities.
When the burden of his care
became too much for the children
to cope with, he was
transferred to the Morgan
Nursing Home in Storm Lake
where he spent the last two
years and gained many new
friends among the patients
and nurses there.
Before his health failed he
had been a member of the
Odd Fellows Lodge and was
an active and faithful member
of the First Methodist church
of Newell and served as janitor
there for many years.
Charlie died as he had lived;
quietly and unafraid, at
peace with God and man. He
was preceeded in death by
his parents, several sisters
and brothers, his wife, Mira
in 1955, and his two sons. He
leaves to mourn his passing
his three children; Vera, Mary
Evelyn and Elwyn; six grandchildren,
and three great grandsons,
plus several nieces
and nephews and many
good friends and neighbors.
