Carrie was the fourth child of Henry Sylvanus Lovell and his wife Eliza Dunham. She married handsome young lawyer William Platt Wood on 8 Jul 1876 at the tender age of 16.

Yesterday morning, Counselor William P. Wood and Miss Carrie F. Lovell, of this city were married by the Rev. Hiram W. Eddy, D.D., at the residence of the bride's mother on Eighth street. The ceremony was performed in the presence of a select company, consisting of the relatives and a few intimate friends of the contracting parties. After the usual congratulations had been extended and received, the newly-wedded couple left this city for Philadelphia and Washington, via the Pennsylvania Railroad, where they will pass their honeymoon, after which they will return and take up a permanent residence in this city.
They lived together in Hudson New Jersey.A mere 9 years later William died suddenly at the age of 37 in Hudson City, NY. The family was told that he died of heart disease. I found a newspaper account of him eating shell fish that night then throwing up all night. This illness culminated in heart failure. Perhaps his death was provoked by an allergy or food poisoning. Carrie retired with her 2 young sons to Danbury, Fairfield,CT. She lived here with her sisters and mother for a time. Her mother Eliza Dunham Lovell had declared herself a widow to census takers and others though her husband was living in New Bedford MA. Carrie and her sisters took in sewing to make an income. It has been said by the grandchildren that she liked pretty clothes. The photos taken at this time period show a happy family including one that suggests she participated in local theatrics.
10 years after William's death Carrie married Jacob Henry Hoffman. They had one daughter Marjorie. They lived in New York City on Creston Ave near 190th street and Fordham Rd. In her final years Carrie lived with Marjorie and her husband Leslie Warren in St. Petersburg Florida. Her sister Hattie lived near by with her husband Charles D. Brown Jr.

Mrs. Caroline Hoffman, 74, resident in St. Petersburg for the last 11 years, died yesterday morning at her home, 1505 Eighteenth Ave. North. Mrs. Hoffman came to this city from New York, and is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Warren of this city; two sons, W. Fred Wood, Brookfield, Conn., and Walter L. Wood, Danbury, Conn., and a sister, Annie L. Roussie, Washington, D.C. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Wilhelm funeral home with the Rev. J. A. McClure officiating. Burial will be in Royal Palm cemetery.
