Will Fillenworth married Gladys Bailey in 1899. They travelled by covered wagon and homesteaded a farm in North Dakota shortly after their wedding. When Gladys was three months pregnant, she contracted typhoid fever. Will couldn't take care of her and the new homestead alone, so he forfeited his homestead claim. Will rolled the very sick, pregnant, Gladys into a feather tick and smuggled her onto a train, as they would never have allowed a person with typhoid to board the train, let alone travel with the other passengers. They returned to Britt so that her family could help care for her. The baby, Forrest, was born full term. He died at the age of two months of diphtheria [source: Cason Family Tree].

The gravestone lists birth and death dates of 1893, which appears unlikely, since his parents were married in 1899. Perhaps 1903 is more likely for birth and death dates.
