FAIR HAVEN - Neil M. "Robbie" Robinson, 41, died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Rutland Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 10, 1972, the son of Neil C. and Shirley (Langworthy) Robinson, in San Leandro, California.
Soon after Robbie's second birthday, the family moved back to Vermont making their home in Fair Haven where Robbie graduated from Fair Haven Union High School. From age 16, Robbie was employed at Grand Union and later at Shaw's Market where he worked until he had to leave due to ill health.
Robbie led a full and active life. He was a Special Olympics athlete from the time he was in grade school. He looked forward to competitions where he and his best friend, Abe St. George, would travel together. During the summer, Robbie was active helping his dad with lawn maintenance and his mom with gardening.
Summer was also special because it was a time to swim and go fishing. Robbie always looked forward to the family trip to Maine and to his weeks spent with friends at Silver Towers summer camp.
Robbie also looked forward to going for coffee at the Wooden Soldier Restaurant with his dad and mom. He really loved to go with his mom to bingo where he saw many friends.
Robbie was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Fair Haven where he received his First Communion and made his Confirmation.
It was because of Robbie that the Sunshine Fund was started to assist anyone with special needs in the Castleton /Fair Haven area. The fund sponsors dances, assists with travel, uniforms and whatever needs might arise. The Sunshine Fund will continue as part of Robbie's legacy to his friends.
Robbie is survived by his parents; his sister, Rebecca; brother-in-law Ben Worthing; his three special nephews, Samuel, Connor and Gabriel Worthing; aunts, uncles, cousins; and his special pal, his dog ,Olivia. He also leaves his dear friend and one-to-one support person who was with Robbie for nearly seven years, Art Webster. Robbie also leaves a community behind that he embraced.
Friends may call at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven between the hours of 3 and 7 p.m. today, Monday, November 11. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Fair Haven.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Robbie donate to the Sunshine Fund through the funeral home.
