Stage and film actor. His career stretched from the thirties to the fifties. First stage actor, he joined the troupe of the Comédie Française, but soon became a silver screen actor, playing in films that are now considered as classics: "L'assassin habite au 21" ("The murderer lives at number 21") in 1942, "Le corbeau" ("The raven") in 1943, "Le journal d'un curé de campagne" ("Diary of a country priest") in 1950, etc. He's actor Jacques Perrin's uncle.
