Alfred emigrated from Sweden, December 31, 1886, arriving in Michigan in 1887. He was preceded by brother Gustaf, who immigrated on April 16, 1886. They both settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Maria Kajsa and brother Theodor emigrated in 1892, but records indicate Theodor may have returned to Sweden. Whereabouts of Maria Kajsa is unknown.
On Christmas Eve, 1891, he married Ida Marie Anderson in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where they made their home. He was employed as a cabinet maker in the furniture industry and Ida Marie was a homemaker.
Alfred and Ida had three children:
