Marjorie was preceded in passing by her parents, Teodulo Herrera and Lucinda Arellanes Herrera, by her husband, Beltran B. Sedillo and by her sister, Stella Ortega.
Marjorie is survived by her brother, Tito Herrera and his wife, Mary Lou, two sons, Eddie Sedillo and Norman Sedillo and his wife, Lisa, three grandchildren, Tina Jones and her husband, Rob, Lucinda Sedillo Akers and her husband, Matthew and Michael Sedillo and his wife, Jessica and four great-grandchildren, Robbie Jones, Naomi Jones and twins, Hector and Joseph Jones, and by numerous relatives and friends.
Marjorie was beloved by many for her kind-heartedness, compassion, generosity and the love she gave to family and friends. Marjorie was also devout in her faith to God. Marjorie was a lifelong member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
Marjorie was born on July 28, 1925, to Teodulo Herrera, a prominent businessman and one time San Miguel County Treasurer, and his wife, Lucinda Herrera. Marjorie was reared in Las Vegas, New Mexico and Pecos, New Mexico, having graduated high school in only three years from Immaculate Conception in Las Vegas, NM.
In her younger years she was an excellent horseback rider and owned a beautiful pinto horse that led parades. Marjorie was artistic and loved music, having the ability to string beads and such together to make jewelry and play the piano. Marjorie also loved to entertain at home, travel the world, line dance, and play cards with her lifelong friends. Marjorie attended New Mexico Highlands University on a music scholarship and graduated with both a bachelor's and a master's eegree. Marjorie was president of the Newman Club and was in the Delta Sigma Epsilon sorority. It was at Highland's where she met the love of her life, Beltran "Cisco" Sedillo. Marjorie had a full career as an elementary school teacher, retiring after 35 years, having taught every grade 1 through 6. Marjorie taught at Bel-Air Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, Lavaland Elementary and Pecos Elementary which was her first job and where she also was part time principal. Marjorie was a union member of the Albuquerque Classroom Teachers Association.
The rosary will be recited by Deacon Ruben Barela at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Albuquerque, NM followed by Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. After mass will be the reception from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Daniels Funeral, 3113 Carlisle NE, Albuquerque, NM. Interment will be held at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM at 3:00 p.m. where she will join her late husband who was interred there in 1976.
