Thomas Darrell Knowles, 82

A Funeral Service for Thomas Darrell Knowles of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 11:00 am, Saturday, November 9, 2013, at First Baptist Church, with Reverend Tad Rogers and Dr. David Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 08, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, at the Roselawn Cemetery in Calico Rock.

Darrell passed away November 5, 2013, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 82. He was born March 1, 1931, in Knob Creek, Arkansas, the son of Thomas Milzie and Bertie Cheatham Knowles. He graduated from Arkansas Tech in 1952 and served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He was married to Treva Smith on September 28, 1954 until her death in 1976. He worked as a seismologist for Carter Oil Company. In 1957, he moved back to Mountain Home and joined his brother, JR Knowles as a furniture salesman at Knowles Furniture. In 1966, he began Knowles Carpet in the Ozark Shopping Center. He married Barbara Roebuck on August 10, 1978. She joined him in the carpet business until his retirement in 1992.

Darrell's love of God and his family were his main priorities. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church for 55 years. He loved the Lord and spent many hours studying the Bible. He taught Sunday School and operated the TV cameras for the church services for many years. He loved to garden and was interested in all types of computers and technology. Darrell was an avid reader, interesting story teller and could quote numerous poems and songs.

Darrell is survived by his spouse, Barbara Knowles of Mountain Home, AR; four daughters, Jane Ann Knowles, Rebecca Jackson, Lucia LoCoscio and Maria Gessner; five grandchildren, Ashley Harness (Seth) Banner, Paul Alan (Marilyn) Gessner, Rachel Jackson (Matt) Perry, Alex Gessner and Kyle Jackson; great-grandchildren, Brody Alan Gessner, Maxine Banner and arriving soon, Baya Perry and three siblings, Gail (Peggy) Knowles, Betty Mason (Herman) King and Bill (Royce) Knowles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Treva, infant daughter, Mary Carolyn, son, James Lee "Jimmy" Roebuck, brother, JR Knowles and sister, Laverne Cone.

Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery, Calico Rock, Arkansas, with Brian Knowles, John Knowles, Ricky Knowles, Tommy Cone, Mike Cone, Kyle Jackson, and Alan Mason as pallbearers. The First Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class and Champion Men's Bible Study Group will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Mountain Home or the American Heart Association .
