Myrtle Bell (Malone) Brooks, age 77, was called home on March 24, 2009. She was born September 25, 1931 in Ryan, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life Robert Brooks, June 21, 1947 in McAllen, Texas where they spent many years as sharecroppers.
After moving around Oklahoma and West Texas they settled in Waxahachie, where they became very active in professional wrestling. She sold pictures at road shows and operated the lights at the Sportatorium for Fritz Von Eric for many years until her retirement. They called Athens home in 1988 and enjoyed many years working and living on a Christmas Tree Farm for Jerry Rogers. She took great pride in having her oldest great-granddaughter Kelsey, born on her birthday 2002 and told everyone about "her special birthday present."
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Robert Brooks, infant son, daughter Betty Jean Brooks, parents Jack and Maudie Malone and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Roy and Brenda Brooks, Athens, Texas, grandsons, Roy Jr. and Keyna Brooks of Ft. Stewart, Ga. Colby Brooks of Athens, Texas, granddaughter, Peggy Brooks of Waxahachie, Texas, great granddaughter, Kelsey Brooks of Athens, Texas, Caitlin Brooks of Ft. Stewart, Ga., brothers, Marion Malone of St. James, Missouri and Don Malone of San Angelo, Texas, sisters, Viola Robertson ad Mae Maxwell of Plainview, Texas, and Lydia Henthorn of Hot Springs, Ark.
The family will celebrate the life of Myrtle and Robert Brooks with a private service in Pharr, Texas. Local arrangements were under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens, Texas
