Betty Langston Avant, wife of the late Robert Maloy Avant Sr., passed away surrounded by family on the evening of November 6, 2013. She had resided with her daughter Linda Corbett, Linda's husband Chris, and her granddaughter Kristy for twelve years. She lived next door to her granddaughter Mindy Corbett, and her great-grandchildren Abigail and Logan Corbett, who were the "Light of Her Eyes".
Mrs. Avant was born in Anderson County July 9, 1931 a daughter of the late William and Hassie Medlock Langston.
She was a retired employee of the Colleton County School System, and was a member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her children: Pam Ramsey (Tony), Linda Corbett (Chris), Mark Avant (Teresa), Timmy Avant (Kay), and Scott Avant; six step-children: Robert Avant Jr. (Mary), Diane Padgett (Dale), Rodger Dandridge (Debbie), Carl Avant (Patsy), Mike Crosby and Eddie Crawford; sister Mary Hammett; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Ivory Avant and six siblings: Louise Turner, Jeanette Langston, and Floyd, Roy, Paul and Jesse Langston.
