Mrs. Avant was born in Anderson County July 9, 1931 a daughter of the late William and Hassie Medlock Langston.
She was a retired employee of the Colleton County School System, and was a member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her children: Pam Ramsey (Tony), Linda Corbett (Chris), Mark Avant (Teresa), Timmy Avant (Kay), and Scott Avant; six step-children: Robert Avant Jr. (Mary), Diane Padgett (Dale), Rodger Dandridge (Debbie), Carl Avant (Patsy), Mike Crosby and Eddie Crawford; sister Mary Hammett; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Ivory Avant and six siblings: Louise Turner, Jeanette Langston, and Floyd, Roy, Paul and Jesse Langston.
