He was one of six aircrew members and one gunnery flight instructor who lost their lives when their Vickers Wellington (#DV927) aircraft crashed at Swineshead, near Boston in Lincolnshire. The Wellington had taken flight from RAF Cranwell on a Fighter Affiliation exercise with a Beaufighter aircraft; it had been taking evasive action before it crashed.
