Adrena De Jong was a daughter of Peter F. and Adrianna (Dieleman) De Jong. She was born on May 10, 1919, near Sully, Iowa where she attended grade school. On February 17, 1938, she was united in marriage with Robert Ellis Mitchell at the parsonage of the First Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Thomas Robert, Thelma Rose, Barbara Jo and Michael Charles. Adrena and Bob lived various places in Marion County, Iowa. Bob operated a trucking business spreading crushed rock and agricultural limestone for 40 years. In 1961 they moved into Otley, Iowa where they continued to live together the remainder of their 64 years of married life. Bob passed away on July 22, 2002, and following his death, Adrena moved into Pella. As her health needs continued to require more attention, she became a resident at the Griffin Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, Iowa. Adrena passed away Monday evening, October 21, 2013, at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics in Knoxville at the age of 94 years. Adrena leaves her four children and their families. They are:

Of her original family Adrena leaves her sister, Zelda Ruth and her husband, Thomas Liebold of Davenport, Iowa; and the following sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Dorothy (Mitchell) and Gerald Carter of Knoxville, Helen (Mitchell) and James Couchman of Fort Worth, Texas, Lee and Yvonne Mitchell of Knoxville. Adrena was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Mitchell; a grandson, David Mitchell and a great-granddaughter, Alainna Joy Mitchell; her parents, Peter and Jennie De Jong and her parents-in-law, Charles B. and Lillie F. (Cavin) Mitchell; and the following brothers and sisters: twins who died in infancy, Lawrence De Jong, Jim De Jong, Raymond De Jong, William De Jong, Suzanne Nezzle and Anna Koopmans.
