Joyce Blake entered her eternal rest on November 1st in Chico. She was the first of five children born to Burnis and Bertha Jones in Jeff, Kentucky on February 5th, 1918. She spent her childhood and high school years in rural SE KY where her father and later, her brother Paul worked as carpenters in the coal mining industry. Following high school graduation, Joyce moved to Chicago where she attended business college and then worked as a clerk and stenographer. While in Chicago, she met and married her first husband, who was later killed in WWII. Soon after the end of the war, she moved to California where she met and married Clarence "Clancy" Blake while both of them were working at Moffett Naval Air Station in Sunnyvale.
They married in July 1947, and shortly thereafter bought a home in Santa Clara. In 1952, Gloria Sharon was born, followed by the birth of Phillip Roger in 1955. Joyce returned to work as a clerk stenographer after the children began school, and later worked as the attendance secretary at Buchser High School in Santa Clara where she worked 23 years, until her retirement in 1976.
Joyce and Clarence moved to Chico, CA in 1977, enjoying their retirement years until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2003. She succumbed to the disease at California Park Rehabilitation Hospital in Chico.
Joyce loved her children and grandchildren dearly and loved to travel. She served with Clancy in the Gideon's International ministry and also loved serving God. She was always eager to play board games, and took every opportunity to have her family and friends partaking in a gamie of Scrabble or cards with her.
Joyce is deeply missed and loved by her family, but alas is finally in God's loving arms!
She is survived by husband, Clancy; son, Phillip, (Melody); daughter, Gloria Casserino, (Frank); grandchildren Tara Smith, Tyler Blake, Joshua Casserino, Gina Casserino; and great-granddaughter Calista Diane Smith.
A Memorial Service for Joyce will be held Friday, November 15th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Butte Bible Fellowship Church in Chico. A private interment will be held at a later date at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery located in Dixon, CA.
