Lydia Laverne "Lettie" (Heflin) Bartee was born on February 8, 1909 in Tennessee, the daughter of James H Dallas Heflin (1888–1951) and Nora A (George) Heflin (1884–1924).

She was married about 1925 to James "Howard" Bartee (1902–1976), and he was the son of Jessie Reed Bartee (1858–1919) and Edna E (Nolan) Bartee (1869–1937).

Lettie passed away on February 16, 1991 and was buried in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee.
