My father in law.

A gentle man, full of grace. He joined the army in 1945 and used to say he served "Overseas in Michigan". He was a school teacher for many years, first teaching elementary school and later teaching motorcycle safety and driver's ed in the Wisconsin public schools.

He was well known for his photography, videography and pottery. He made beautiful bowls, one of which I have in our living room. He loved to build, adding a screened porch, deck and dumb waiter to his house over the years. He was Mr. Fix-it and installed/built/fixed many things in our house when he came to visit. He always answered the phone, "Yello" and we all imitated him doing that. He was the kind of man who always had your back, especially on a long drive.

I used to call him the Energizer Papa because he lived for years with several things medically wrong and kept going. He even made it to my son's Bar Mitzvah this past January to help lead prayers.

Loving husband to Joyce. Beloved father of Becky and Teri. Adored step-father to Gary, Cindi and Jackie, who considered him more of a father. Loving Papa to Jamie, Matthew and Noah. Great-grandfather to Samantha and Parker. Wonderful father in law to Harry, Amy and Bruce. Brother of Jerry and Phylis. Brother in law to Gerry, Minnie, Doris and Paul. Animal Daddy to Cassie, the late Star, the late Bucky, the late Mitzi, the late Bambi and Lafeet, all of whom, I'm sure, were there to welcome him. Uncle and cousin to many. Friend to many more.

The only person I would ride on a motorcycle with.

Kahn, Irving "Irv" 86, of Bayside. Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Nov. 2, 2013. Irv is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; devoted daughters Becky Kahn, Terri Kahn, Jackie (Harry) Zigan; son, Gary (Amy) Abramson; and son-in-law Bruce Abramson-Andrews. Adored Papa of Jamie (Jake) Adams, Matthew Zigan, and Noah Abramson. Proud great-grandfather of Sammi and Parker Adams. Predeceased by brother, Jerry Kahn and daughter, Cindi Abramson-Andrews. Further survived by sister, Phyllis (Jerry) Briskin, sister-in-law, Minnie Kahn, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other close family and friends. Irv, a long-time member of Temple Menorah, proudly served in the US Army during WWII and was a long-time member and commander of the Jewish War Veterans. A 35-year retiree of Milwaukee Public Schools, Irv spent much of his career as department head of the driver education department at Bayview High School. He was very proud of his involvement in creating the Motorcycle Safe Rider's program still in use today. The family wishes to thank Irv's caregivers for their gentle kindness and compassion.
