Ellen Lucille Caldwell, 88, Nevada, MO, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Barone Alzheimer's Care Center in Nevada following a short illness.
Ellen was born April 20, 1925 in Vernon County, Missouri, to Louis Wayne Short and Eula Cherlene Hooper Short. She was married to Elton Caldwell on April 13, 1945 in San Diego, CA, and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2008.
Ellen was raised in the Walker area and graduated from Walker High School in 1943. She was mostly a homemaker, but did work at an ice cream factory for a time in San Diego, CA, and at Keys in Nevada. She also helped Elton run the Cottey Grocery in Nevada, and the General Store in Dederick, MO.
Survivors are her two sons; Earl Caldwell and his wife Joyce, Terry Caldwell and his wife Susie, all of Nevada; five grandchildren, Marty Caldwell and his wife Sandy, Nevada, Misty Shepherd and her husband Curtis, Diamond, MO, Eric Caldwell and his wife Leray, Nevada, Mendy Legleiter and her husband Leon, Wakeforest, NC, Justin Caldwell and his wife Claudia, Nevada; 11 great-grandchildren, Kelsey Caldwell, Triston Shepherd, Tori Shepherd, Erica Caldwell, Colton Caldwell, McKenzie Cox, Riley Legleiter, Reese Ellen Legleiter, Owen Caldwell, Christopher Mejia, Jr., and Chelsea Mejia; two great-great-grandchildren, Messer Campbell and Bliss Campbell; one sister, Maxine Wallace, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son Kelly Dean Caldwell.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2013, at Newton Burial Park in Nevada, with Rev. Linda Pagel officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, prior to the service. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
