Anne (Giddings) Webb Smith Duncan, 78, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, December 17, 2004, after a brief illness.

A native of Plains, GA, she was the widow of James Fletcher Duncan and daughter of the late Wilbur H. Giddings and Billie W. Giddings. She was first married to the late Lt. Cmdr. Babe Walter Webb and later to the late Cary Ballard Smith.

She attended schools in Americus, GA, and Mercer University in Macon, GA. She was a member of St. Christophers Episcopal Church for many years, where she served on the Altar Guild and as a member of the choir. She was a member of the Spartanburg Garden Club, Ex Libris Book Club, and was active as a member of the Shepherd Center and as a volunteer for Mobile Meals for many years.

Survivors include daughters, Lynne Webb Burton of Spartanburg, and Dr. Susan E. Webb of Murrells Inlet; step-daughters, Anne Duncan Morris of Summerville, Louise Duncan Ellis of Latta, and Emily Duncan Long of Greenville; her brother, James L. Giddings of Delray Beach, FL; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her dear friend, Herbert Kay.

She was predeceased by her son, Wayne Allan Webb; her step-son, James Fletcher Duncan, Jr.; a grandson, William Robert Morris, Jr.; and her sister, Margaret S. Giddings.

Visitation was 1:00-1:45 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2004, at St. Christophers Episcopal Church.

Funeral services follow edat 2:00 p.m. at the Church, conducted by the Rev. George N. Gray, Jr. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to St. Christophers Episcopal Church, 400 Dupre Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302; to the James F. Duncan Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Wofford College, 429 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to a charity of ones choice.
