Evelyn Irene Newton was born February 11, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa to Stanley and Florence Knotts, the eldest daughter of four girls. She gave selflessly of herself and her time. Evelyn volunteered at Methodist and Lutheran Hospitals and worked as a security agent at the Airport and the Courthouse. She crocheted blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they were born. More recently, she was very involved at her home at Valley View Village. She loved bowling on the Wii bowling league and participated in game night every Friday. She volunteered for the Valley View Guild, raising money to support projects for the residents.

Evelyn passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Methodist Hospital at the age of 90. She is lovingly remembered by her children Bob Newton (Lola), Jeanne Pollpeter (Larry), and Sue Tucker (Roger), ten grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren, and her sisters Shirley and Frances. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Lee Newton, and sister Mary Lou.
