Medical Examiner Dr. Frank Sautter atcributed death to drowning after McNee's body had been retrived from the lake by Athol Fire Department diver Gerald Losier.
Losier found McNee's body in about 15 feet of water after about two hours from the time the police were notified of the dog yelping. The dog was saved.
Firement were called by the police to rescue the dog and noticed the man's hat floating on the water. They then called in members of their diving unit.
Orange police said McNee had come to the lake to prepare his camp for the summer. The body was removed to Witty Funeral Home, Orange, and then taken to the John B. Shea Funeral Home here.
Mr. McNee was the widower of Mary Moynihan McNee who died in July, 1955.
Mr. McNee was born in Holyoke, son of the Late Thomas and Ellen Burke McNee and was educated in local schools. He was co-owner of the Thomson McNee Motor Co., of the city for many years and after that was employed at the Springfield Armory until retiring in 1955.
Mc. McNee is survived by three sons in Holyoke, Thomas J. Jr., a radio operator for Exxon Oil Co., John G., of General Dynamics in Chicopee, and Holyoke Fire Dept. Lt. Donald C. and one other son, Earl F., of Lancaster, PA; one daughter, Mrs. Mary(Wayne) Allen of Fairfax, VA; one sister, Mrs. Ann Fredricks of Holyoke; 19 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Monday morning from the John B. Shea Funeral Home followed by a liturgy of Christian burial in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery.
