Martha's birthdate and place of birth is on her death certificate and is recorded in Illinois Death Records.

Martha was the 7th child of 8 children born to George and Elizabeth (Swingley) Hooton. Martha had 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

Martha's father was a farmer in Ohio when she was born but by 1860 Census they are living on a farm in Lexington, Illinois.

On July 27, 1869 at age 23, Martha is united in marriage with Doras G. Stevens, a Harness Maker. He is 17 years older than her. Martha is his 2nd wife.

We know Martha's husband died, because we find Martha a widow on 1910 Census at age 64. She is living with her married daughter, Cora, and Cora's husband, Charles William Skinner.

On 1930 Census at age 84, Martha is still widowed, living with her daughter in Bloomington, Illinois. 3 days after the Census was taken, Martha died at home on April 7, 1930. Cause of death was Chronic Myocarditis, a heart disease.

Her death certificate tells us she was laid to rest on April 9, 1930 in Lexington Cemetery.

Research, Bio & D. Cert. ordered by Juanita Clark, 2nd g.grand niece of Martha.
