CLINTON, Wis. - Albert William Rice, 78, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at his home.

He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Bancroft, Wis., to John William and Dolly Evelyn (Nigh) Rice.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a longtime dairy farmer in Platteville and Darien, Wis., and also in the Harvard area. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Janesville, Wis. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and carpentry.

Survivors include seven sisters, Lanolla (Arthur) Narbone of Beloit, Wis., Stella Carter of South Beloit, Agnes Wille of Belvidere, Frances (Moe) Dotson of Beloit, Esther Wagner of Arizona, Shirley Schutt of Ten Mile, Tenn., and Josephine (Alvin) Hawkins of Brodhead, Wis.; a brother, Elroy (Susan) Rice of Beloit; and many nieces and nephews. He also is survived by a niece; Delores Jones of Clinton, who took care of him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Shotliff on April 30, 1978; his second wife, Cleo Basye, whom he married Oct. 21, 1989, in Janesville and who died on Jan. 7, 1998; four brothers; and five sisters.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, until the service at 11 a.m. at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard. The Rev. Gaylor Nelson will officiate.

Interment will be in McHenry County Memorial Park in Woodstock.
