Joe Carpenter, born September 10, 1940 in Franklin, North Carolina, passed away on March 4, 2013.
Joe came to Sedro-Woolley in 1950 at the age of 10 and made Skagit Valley his home.
He served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Joe was a jack of all trades, good with his hands, a great carpenter just like his name.
Joe was an entrepreneur. He owned the barber shop called the Sportsman's Den in Burlington. He was the top Barber in Washington State 2 years in a row. He was a salesman for VanderGrift Shake Mill and owned a car lot "Center Line Auto" in Sedro-Woolley.
He moved to Denver, Colorado where his brother Paul owned Ace Bail Bonds. His brothers Paul, Joe and sister Judy were all Bail Bondsmen together. Joe was bored behind the desk so he was the bounty hunter. He was very good at finding the bad guys and taking them to jail. He had a lot of great stories to tell. Joe could make you laugh on a rainy day.
He owned Valley West Paving in Sedro-Woolley and also drove a race car at Skagit Speedway called Parnell Joe #69 "The Tiger".
In his younger years he married Brenda Herr and they had a daughter Debbie Carpenter (Harris). He later married Joy Woody and they had twins Abraham Paul and Ashley Joy Carpenter.
He is survived by his sister Judy Fisher of Sedro-Woolley, daughter Debbie Harris (Todd) of Idaho, daughter Ashley Schmidt (Sean) of Lyman, son Abraham Carpenter (Jen) of Stanwood; his grandchildren, Jessica Gormsor, Cody Harris, Barrett Medellin and one more on the way; his great-grandchildren, Riley Jean, Truyson Todd and one more on the way; nephews, Scott Avant of N.C., Brandon Richardson (Brittney) of Sedro-Woolley; niece Joleda Martin; his step-children, Phillip Hedington, Brian Hedington and Brent Marcardo; aunt Sylvia Anderson and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother Carrie Anderson Garland; step-father Alex Garland; sister Mary Passmore; and brother Paul Carpenter.
Joe lived an exciting life. He loved dogs, dancing, partying and his silver Corvette, license plate "Legend".
There will be a memorial service at 1:00pm on March 16th at the Burlington Foursquare Church, 124 N. Regent St. There will be a potluck following. Flowers may be sent to Burlington Foursquare Church.
