Mary was the daughter of Lewis/Louis Gero/Giroux. In the 1850 census, when the family was living in Sheldon, VT, his wife's name appears to be Zaa.

Although Mary's death record states that she was 65 years of age at death, suggesting she was born about 1847, that does not match other records. The year of birth entered here is an approximation.

Mary and her husband Peter were living with daughter Julia and her husband Andrew Playful in Franklin as early as 1910.

"The Enosburg Standard", Friday, Oct 11, 1912:

--South Franklin--

"Mrs Ryea, Wife of Peter Ryea, who died a few months ago, died after a short illness, at the home of her son-in-law Andrew Playful, on Friday night of last week.

Funeral was held at the church in this place Sunday Afternoon and was attended by the Rev. L.O. Sherburne of Burlington in the absence of the Pastor the Rev. T. H. Cresly.

The Burial was at Berkshire Center."
