Duke of Friuli, Marquis of Ivrea, Count (or Marquis) de Trévise. His christian name may be spelt Evrard, Eberhard, Erhard or Eberard. He wrote his name as "Evvrardus". He was an important political, military, and cultural figure in the Carolingian Empire. He kept a large library, commissioned works of Latin literature from Lupus Servatus and Sedulius Scottus.

His father was either Unruoch II, or Bèrenger, the son of Count Unroch I. (Unruoch II being the preferred option.) His mother was Engeltrude. Emperor Louis the Pious gave Evrard the the hand of his daughter, the Princess Gisèle, in marriage. Children with Gisela :

Unruoch III (c.839 – 874)
Berenger (c.840 – 924), King of Italy

Evrard was elevated to the Court of Charlemagne. He took his education at the Palace School founded by Charlemagne. Evrard also took part in numerous military expeditions. including defended his country against invasion by the Bulgars.

In 867 his Testimony was made at Musiestro Castle in Trévise. Evrard and Gisele meticulously recorded not only their lands and possessions within a prepared will, but the identities and relationships of family members and neighbouring royals. Evrard and Gisèle portioned their goods among their seven children.

Evrard and Gisèle founded the monastery at Cysoing, where they are buried.
Evrard was later canonised as a Saint, and his feast day is on 16 December.
