A native of Cross, WV, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Nevitt and Mary Pearl (Schooley) Allender. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Richard Shears.
She had been the assistant postmaster at Elk Garden for 23 years. She was a member of the Grave Methodist Church, and Bethlehem Chapter 14, order of the Western Star, Westernport.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Green, San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Mildred Effinger, Washington; three sons, Clifton Shears, Cresaptown; Raymond Shears, Mansfied, Ohio; and Kenneth Shears, Ft. Polk, Louisiana; one brother, David E. Allender, Cumberland; and 15 grandchildren.
