Bernice Hylemon Calloway, "Granny" 80 died peacefully at home Wednesday, October 16, 2013. She was the daughter of the late George and Atchie Hylemon. Bernice was also preceded in death by her husband Ralph W. Calloway, grandchild Dena H. Rice, great grandchild Jarod Haynes and brothers, Arlon, Leonard and Albert Hylemon. She retired after 29 years at Golden Living Healthcare as a CNA. Bernice was known for her passion for her flowers and "playing in dirt". Surviving are her daughters, Wanda Haynes (Paul), Jean Calloway, Rita Ingram (David) and Pam Terry, special sister-in-law, Sonja Blevins. She is also going to be missed by her grandchildren: Chris Haynes, Baretta and Kenny Murray, Cody Terry and Nathan Haynes and her "Angel" grandaughter, Christi Terry. Granny has three great granddaughters; Thai, Ashtyn and Marah Murray and new great grandson due in December. She is also survived by many neices and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held 8:00pm Monday, October 21, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service in Mars Hill. Rev. Richard Brown and Rev. C.W. Anthony will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 prior to the service.
