VETERAN DIES AFTER ILLNESS

Washington Taylor Weddington to Be Buried in Elmwood Cemetery Today.

Washington Taylor Weddington, 81, Confederate veteran, died at the home of a son, D. B. Weddington, 408 Wharf Street, yesterday afternoon after having been in fading health for some time.

Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral parlors of Z. A. Hovis & Son, this afternoon at 3 o’clock, with Rev. S. B. Lyerly, pastor of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, in charge. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be L. A. Norman. R. P. Covington, J. S. Schachner, Ed Redfern, H. W. Davis and W. D. White.

Mr. Weddington served in the Civil War in the 72nd regiment. Company C. North Carolina Volunteers. He was wounded in the battle of Kinston.

Surviving Mr. Weddinton are five daughters, Mrs. Addie Shuman, Mrs. W. D. Rogers, Mrs. Grace Holmes, Mrs. Olin Moore of Charlotte and Mrs. J. F. Nance of Union County; two sons, D. B. Weddinton and W. H. Weddington of Charlotte, and several grandchildren.

Mr. Weddington was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church.
