The Reading Eagle newspaper carried his obituary April 12, 1892, page 1. As follows:

William Stephen, aged 72 years, died of dropsy at 6 pm at his residence, 131 North 3rd Street. Deceased was born in Chester County, and afterwards moved to Lancaster, where he resided for several years. Fourteen years ago he moved to this city, and has lived here ever since.
He leaves a wife and 6 children: Mrs. Anna W. Livingston, Mrs. Hannah Clemens, Samuel A. Stephen, Harry N. Stephen, Ada Stephen, all of Lancaster, and David A. Stephen, of this city.
He also has 2 brothers and 3 sisters: Jesse of Vineland, NJ; Joseph of Woodbury, Baltimore Co., MD; Mrs. Mary Strahorn of Avondale, Chester Co.; Mrs. Ruth Reider of Wilmington; Mrs. Catharine Allison of Columbia;
Mr. Stephen was a member of St. Peter's M.E. Church.
