I was young but I remember the good times with my Grandpa as he would always take me to the store with him and would let me pick out some candy too.He drove a white Ford Falcon at that time and I thought it was a cool car. When I visited them I got to sleep in the same bed with my Grandpa as he and Grandma had separate rooms then.He was the coolest Grandpa as he taught me so many things.
We lived about 3 hours from them so I saw him and Grandma about every other month.I was 7 when he passed but turned 8 the day after he was buried so that birthday wasn't a happy one.My Mom told me to pick out a cake from the Many that were on the table from people bringing food to their house and she decorated it for me so I could at least have a cake.Grandpa was a former policeman so he was well known in the community and the outpouring of love and support was overwhelming to 7 year old me.I remember so many people coming to the house and also to the visitation at the funeral home. His flowers took over 3 rooms and I remember walking around looking at all of them.I never realized that my Grandpa was so well loved. This was back in the day when you lined up in cars at the house to proceed to the church.Arriving at the cemetery while we,the family, assembled for the gravesite short sermon I remember seeing cars still streaming through the iron gates at the entrance. The floral arrangements took over his grave and surrounding ones too.
