John Schmidt, age 87 years, a fine old gentleman, died Saturday evening at his home a mile northwest of Camp creek church, southwest of Atchison. Funeral services were held this forenoon, and the burial was in the Pardee cemetery. Mr. Schmidt had lived on the farm where he died for thirty years, and is survived by three children, who made their home with him: Fred and Jacob Schmidt and Mrs. Mary Miller and two step-children, Louis and Henry Dahlke.

John Schmidt, Old Settler, is Dead
Built Log Cabin On Farm On Camp Creek in 1856—Funeral Was Held At Noon Today
John Schmidt, better known as Camp Creek John, and old and estimable citizen of Camp Creek, died Saturday night at 6 o'clock at his home in Camp Creek. Death was due to the infirmities of age. Mrs. Schmidt pre-empted the land on which he still lived in 1856 and the old log cabin which is still standing on the farm and which is used as a blacksmith shop, he built self in that year.
He was born in Zurich, Switzerland, and came to this country in the early '50's coming to Kansas soon after coming to America.
The funeral was held at noon today, in the Evangelical church which Mr. Schmidt built.
