Veteran of Steamboating Passes On at Age of 68
Captain Oleziphore (sic) Blanchard, 68 year old, a veteran riverman, died in Touro Infirmary Thursday evening. Since 1887 he has been closely connected with the steamboat business on the Mississippi and his father, Captain Max Blanchard, was a pilot on the Robert E. Lee during her historic race with the Natchez in 1870.
Captain Blanchard had been ill several months.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Markey mortuary parlors. Interment will be in St. Louis cemetery No. 2.
