Onnalee Olson Doheny passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on October 10, 2013. A native of Los Angeles, Onnalee was born October 24, 1919, daughter of Fred Olson (of Olson Bakeries) and Cecelia Lockrey Olson; and sister to Fred Olson, Jr. She grew up in Los Feliz, attending Marlborough School and Holmby College. A great beauty, Onnalee married Billy James Cord in 1939 and had a son, Christopher Cord. After Billy James' untimely death, Onnalee caught the eye of William H. Doheny, son of E.L. Doheny Jr. and Lucy Smith. Onnalee considered Bill Doheny the love of her life and their love affair lasted 58 years. Together they had two children, William H. Doheny, Jr. and Wendy Doheny McWethy. Onnalee spent her long and productive life devoted to her charities, her church, her glorious garden, and most importantly, to her large and beloved family, comprised of three children, two daughters-in-law, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. As a community leader and philanthropist, she was actively involved on the Board of the Bel Air Garden Club; founding member of The Colleagues; Honorary Board Member of the Doheny Eye Institute; contributor to the USC Doheny Memorial Library; Life Trustee of Saint John's Hospital; member of the Assistance League of Southern California; and past President of the Los Angeles Orphanage Guild. Her interest in the arts included The Blue Ribbon of the Music Center, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Onnalee was an active member of Westwood Presbyterian Church in Westwood. Her hobbies were horticulture and gardening, for which she had a deep and longstanding love and appreciation. Throughout her life, her beautiful garden gave her great joy. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Billy James Cord; her second husband, William H. Doheny; her brother, Fred Olson, Jr.; her father, Fred Olson, Sr.; her mother, Cecelia Lockrey Olson; and her granddaughter-in-law, Georgia Contompasis Cord. Onnalee is survived by: Christopher Cord (Katrina) and family; William H. Doheny, Jr. (Libby) and family; and Wendy Doheny McWethy and family. She was greatly loved by them and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 18, 2013 at 11:00am at Westwood Presbyterian Church followed by a reception at the LA Country Club.
