** In Loving Memory of Alma **

Alma will be loved, missed and remembered in our hearts forever. Alma was born in Norway in 1900. Alma, her Parents Anton and Hannah were living at the Øverjordet Family Farm in Norway in 1900. It is not clear how long they stayed there, but Alma's name included Øverjordet in Norwegian Digitalarkivet
Census Records. Alma and her Parents immigrated to the USA in 1901. They left Oslo on the ship Christiana. Their ship had problems. They were stuck in Liverpool a while. They left Liverpool April 10, 1901 on the SS Waesland Ship. They arrived in the USA on April 21, 1901. They settled in Aldrich Mn. Anton's Sister Petra Thurstison and Husband Peter Sponsored their Family and helped them settle in Wadena County MN. Alma and her Parents stayed with the Thurstison Family a while before finding their own home. After moving from Norway to MN, Alma lived in Aldrich MN when she was younger. Alma attended school in Aldrich MN 1906- 1914. Alma was the oldest of her five siblings. Her sister Oline was the second child born and she had three brothers, Aless, Art and Harold. Alma married John Wickstrom June 1, 1927 in Verndale. Alma lived in Wadena prior to marrying John. She later lived in the Mpls MN area 1927- 1964 as she and John raised their children. John worked for the Milwaukee Railroad. Alma was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Giant Valley American Legion Post 234 Auxiliary in Mpls. Alma spent much time with relatives in the Twin Cities and visited Wadena. After Anton and Hannah passed away, Alma's siblings families resided at the Wadena Family home at 304 Jefferson St. In later life, July 1965 Alma and John moved from the Twin Cities to Wadena and lived in the Family home on Jefferson St. They had a huge garden, spent much time with Family and Friends. Celebrating the Fourth of July annually in Wadena was a big tradition. Prior to moving back to Wadena, they spent time with Family, got together and celebrated with Anton and Hannah other beloved family members often. They assisted in hosting the the annual Wadena Fourth of July celebrations. Family gathered, they had fireworks, great food, enjoyed each others company. Family traveled from Twin Cities, stayed for the weekends in the Wadena Family homes. Alma and her siblings had a very close, loving family relationship. Alma spent much time with Oline, Art, Harold, Aless, their spouses and their children. The cousins spent much time together. Alma was especially close to her Sister Oline. They were best friends. Oline shared many fond memory stories about Alma with her family and was very close to Alma's family. Oline was 98 yrs old when she passed away in 2004. Oline was our Olson Family Historian and loved to talk about family history. It appears that Alma's Daughter Joyce was Alma's family historian. Joyce shared family stories with her children. Our Families spent much time with each other. Alma's Son John, nephews, grandchildren remember the Family Times together in Wadena well and have many wonderful cherished memories of their times in Wadena. Alma passed away unexpectedly in Wadena. Feb. 26 1966, About 6 months after moving to Wadena, Alma had a stroke as she was walking downtown Wadena. She was hospitalized briefly at Wesley Hospital and passed away approx, three days later at the hospital. Her Grand Daughter thinks Alma hung on until her children, including her Daughter Joyce from the Twin Cities had the chance to be with her to say their goodbyes. Alma's Funeral Services were held at the Immanual Lutheran Church in Wadena. Losing Alma so unexpectedly was a very sad time for all who loved her. The tradition of the Family gathering around the Fourth of July annually in Wadena continued for many years after Alma passed away. As of 2015, Alma and John are survived by their Son John Wickstrom. Alma has Great Grand Daughters named after Alma and her Mother, Kristina and Hannah. Alma and John are survived by many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends around Minnesota and other areas.

A 12-3-1900 Norway Census for Nord Fron
Norway includes Alma, her parents
Anton & Hannah , her Grandfather Gudbrand
other relatives living at the Øverjordet
Farm in Norway. Alma with Øverjordet name.
The Census Alma Kristine Øverjordet, Hannah Øverjordet, Anton Mellemsdokken, Gudbrand H. Øverjordet, Peter G. Øverjordet, Ole G. Øverjordet, and elderly woman named Ambjor Øverjordet (1833 dob). Ambjor didn't have the same names as the parents names we have in our family tree. A Mari J. Barusten (dob 1859) and her three children Sofia H. Barusten, Jon K. Barusten and Andria Barusten were also living in the household. Gudbrand and Kari had a daughter named Marie, but her dob is 1870. This may have been Alma's Aunt and cousins. unknown. Nord Fron Herred/Hovin not sited in our family tree as Anton was not from Herred and he was listed as Herred. A previous 1875 Nord Fron Census had Anton and his family of origin living at the Mellemsdokken Farm in Sothorp S. Nord Fron.Oppland Norway. The Norwegian practice was for persons living at the farm, they took on the farm name as their last name. Anton's name was misspelled, but not changed to Øverjordet. Our Family has been referring to Alma as Olsen Mellemsdokken, Anton's last name. Olsen spelling was changed in the USA after immigration from Olsen to Olson. (Alma's brother changed his back to Aless Olsen) When they were living at the Øverjordet farm, they listed Alma as Øverjordet, Hannah's maiden name. ( Hannah's maiden name would also include her Father's first name, but Hannah spelled it an L. per the Family Bible entry (Gulbransdatter rather than Gudbransdatter. Hannah's brother Peter was Peter Gudbransen Øverjordet. In the USA, Peter's spelling of his name varied on records some places as Gulbrandsen, including his burial records) This information available online via the Norwegian ARKIVVERKET digital website. Our Jordet- Hage Relatives
from Norway explained that in Norway there were different dialects and some used the "L".

Up until Hannah and her Jordet Family
members passed away, the MN Jordet
Family communicated with relatives
in Norway. Cousins Mattie and Karen
Jordet also immigrated from Norway.
They communicated with the Øverjordets
and other Family in Norway. Mattie
and Karen were fluent in Engish and
Norwegian language. They wrote back and
forth and visited Norway. They helped
other Family members communicate
with Family in Norway. Anton and Hannah
were also bilingual and communicated
with others in Norway including
the Family of Mary Kleven Olsen,
other Family. As of 2015 our Family
is now communicating with Relatives
from our Olsen Mellemsdokken Family
in Norway and Øverjordet Relatives
from Norway. Our Øverjordet Relatives
via the Hage Family found us in 2015
via Mattie and Karen Jordet's Findagrave
Memorials.

** Anton and Hannah changed their last names from Olsen to Olson after they immigrated from Norway to MN. One brother, Aless, changed his name back to the Norwegian Olsen
spelling after he turned age 18 yrs old.
References to Alma on a 1939 child's birth certificate, refer to her As Alma C. Olson Wickstrom. While she was born Olsen, Findagrave now changed to Olson per those census and child's mothers maiden name reports. Same Family, different spellings. Alma's middle name Kristina is spelled differently on some reports too.

**Alma's bio is rough draft only. to be edited.

Alma was born Alma Kristina in 1900 Norway. Olsen spelling in Norway, Olson in USA. Øverjordet in Norway, Jordet in USA. Alma and her Parents lived on the Øverjordet and Mellemsdokken Family Farm in Vinstra Oppland Norway before immigrating to the USA April 1901. According to a 1900 Norway Nord Fron Census, Alma also lived at the Øverjordet Family Farm with Hannah, Anton, her Grandfather Gudbrand Flaate Øverjordet and other relatives. Alma and her parents may had stayed with both Anton and Hannah's families before moving to the USA in 1901. Norwegian Custom was to include the family farm as part of their surname. Alma immigrated to the USA and to MN with her parents as a baby in 1901. Her siblings were born after the Family lived in Aldrich MN USA. Alma's late sister Oline Olson Carlson told our family the story of Alma's journey from Norway to the USA. They settled in Aldrich MN, Wadena, with the help of the Peter and Peter Thurstison Family. (later also changing some of their children's names to Thurston)

Alma & John's children Merlin, Joyce, Carol, Juliann and Thelma Mae have passed away as of this 2014 entry.

Stillborn, buried in Wadena per Family Member ( MN Death Records Index on Family Search site has her birth and death recorded. no name. ) Her history was shared with family by her late Sister Joyce. Alma's Grand Daughter reports that Alma was going to name her baby Thelma Mae. It appears that Alma lost the baby due to illness. Alma's Grand Daughter states there are birth/death records for the baby in Wadena.(confirmed) Alma's Grand Daughter reports that Anton Olson made the Baby's casket. Thelma Mae is buried at the Bethany Church Lutheran Cemetery in Blue Grass Mn. She is allegedly in an unmarked grave, buried at the foot of her Grandma Caroline Wickstrom's grave. When more info is received, we can create a Memorial for Baby Thelma. Caroline and John Wickstrom were very active at Bethany Lutheran in Blue Grass. Caroline and two of John's siblings who passed away as infants are buried next to Caroline. While Thelma Mae is not registered as being at Bethany Bluegrass, it does appear she is there. ( as told by Alma's Daughter)

- - - - - - -

Alma's given birth name was going to be
used in the Findagrave site. Legal Documents
after she lived in USA refer to her as Olson,
spell her middle name differently, spelled
Christina or Christine. Alma's last name
Olsen was changed to Olson after arrival
to USA. Hannah's maiden name of Overjordet
became Jordet when the immigrated to
America. A G. Grand Daughter is named
after Alma, using her Norwegian given
middle name, Kristine. Before Alma
and her Parents Anton and Hannan
immigrated to the USA from Norway
they stayed at Hannah's Parents
Home, the Øverjordet Farm in
Nord Fron Norway. In Norway,
Farm names are included in
the persons name. Alma was
referred to as Alma Øverjordet
in a Norway Census when Anton,
Hannah and Alma were living
at the Øverjordet Farm in the
1900 Census. They spelled Anton's
Mellemsdokken Farm name wrong,
but he kept his name in that
Census and despite being
married, Hannah was Hannah
Øverjordet in that Census
in Norway.

Olsen - Carlson family trees. Ancestry.com.

** much names issues as being spelled differently
to note: Anton's given name was Olsen with an E. Her brother Aless born in MN was Olson ( and changed it Olsen as an adult). Her brothers Arthur, Harold and sister Oline's last names changed to Olson, with an o. The Olson versus Olsen is interchanged in many legal documents. Alma Olsen is listed as Olson on census reports, as were her parents. Alma's middle name Kristina was listed as Christina on her death index report. This could be very confusing for the family history search info. Alma's sister Oline told her family about this often. even using her birth name if others looking to find her by how the census reports or death index spells her name differently. They are the same family, same parents, just different spelling. findagrave Memorial link is using Alma's given birth name, via her passport, birth certificate info rather than use the others. Alma's Mother Hannah Olsen's maiden name was Øverjordet when she was in Norway, then Jordet spelling inAmerica. Alma's sister Oline's maiden name spelled Olson on her birth information. Alma's brother Aless Olsen changed his name of Olson to Olsen after he was an adult as Olsen was Anton's given name in Norway. Much of the census reports for all the family spelled all their names Olson. Anton and Hannahs graves indicate Olson now. Alma came to USA as a baby and the documents provided verify 1901 immigration date. ( see family tree on Ancestry.com) All of Alma's Siblings now have Findagrave Memorials linked to their Parents Anton and Hannah Olson.

Our beloved Alma is buried in the Wadena
Cemetery. Alma is buried next to her
spouse John, son Merlin. Anton and Hannah
Olson, Alma's Parents are also buried at
the Wadena Cemetery. Many relatives are
buried at the Wadena Cemetery. Twin
Brothers Art & Harold Olson and their
Spouses are buried on the Calvary Cemetery
side of the adjoining Cemeteries. Two
Cemeteries next to each other, different
names. Art is buried next to his beloved
wife Evelyn Olson. Harold is buried next
to his beloved wife, Marion Olson. The
two Sisters Evelyn and Marion married
the Twin Olson Brothers.

Daughter Juliann Mae Wickstrom is buried at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Mpls. Brother Aless Olsen, his wife Dena Olsen, and their son Ronnie Olsen also buried at Crystal Lake Cemetery. Aless changed the spelling of his last name Olson to Olsen when he was an adult. Other Siblings kept the USA Olson last name.

Alma and John's Son talks about his
late beloved parents often. The Family
had many wonderful times...Especially
their yearly annual Fourth of July
Gatherings in Wadena and Holidays.
John said he was about 5 yrs old in
1942. John remembers how this time was
very bad time for their family was in
1942. His baby sister Juliann was 2 yrs
old. She passed away of Scarlet Fever
at home. The Family home was in
quarantine. Nobody could visit, they
could not go anywhere. His sister
Joyce, per her daughter was also ill
with scarlet fever, almost died and
spent 3 months at Sister Kinney Rehab
in Mpls. His most cherished memory
during that awful time was when his
Aunt Oline Olson Carlson and her
Husband Martin brought the children
Easter Baskets, came to visit when
they were not suppose to. Another
Sibling ( Art or Harold) did the same.
He came to visit. They risked getting
ill coming to the family home, but
the family needed them too at that
time. Our Families were close, bonded
by love. Family does not remember seeing
any pictures of Juliann. We are trying
to find one.

Alma and John helped care for Alma's
Sibling Aless's children during the
time their Son Ronnie was hospitalized
for his terminal illness. Ronnie and a
sibling had strep throat. Ronnie's
illness progressed to a serious medical
complications despite being in the
hospital a very long time. They dropped
their other children off at Alma and
John's Home when they visited their
dear young son Ronnie every day at
the U of MN Hospital. Another sad
time for the Family, losing a young
beloved child at a young age due
to serious illness.

Alma's Family lived in the Mpls MN area
a long time. Alma and spouse Jack moved
back to Wadena later in life. They lived
at the home once owned by Alma's
Parent Anton and Hannah Olson. Her
Parents home remained in the family
a long time. There is now a Casey's
Gas Station/Store built on that land.
Other Family members remained living
in the Mpls/ Twin Cities Metro area,
moved up north, back to Wadena,
other areas.

Our Family welcomes family history info,
photos, written memorial tributes.
Son John Wickstrom contributed to
his Mother Alma's Memorial and Father
John's Memorial. Grand Daughter
Gail Wenninger also contributed to
Alma's Memorial. Family would really
welcome more family photos.

Alma's given birth name was going to be
used in the Findagrave site. Legal Documents
after she lived in USA refer to her as Olson,
spell her middle name differently, spelled
Christina or Christine. Alma's last name
Olsen was changed to Olson after arrival
to USA. Hannah's maiden name of Overjordet
became Jordet when the immigrated to
America. A G. Grand Daughter is named
after Alma, using her Norwegian given
middle name, Kristine. Before Alma
and her Parents Anton and Hannan
immigrated to the USA from Norway
they stayed at Hannah's Parents
Home, the Øverjordet Farm in
Nord Fron Norway. In Norway,
Farm names are included in
the persons name. Alma was
referred to as Alma Øverjordet
in a Norway Census when Anton,
Hannah and Alma were living
at the Øverjordet Farm in the
1900 Census. They spelled Anton's
Mellemsdokken Farm name wrong,
but he kept his name in that
Census and despite being
married, Hannah was Hannah
Øverjordet in that Census
in Norway.

** much names issues as being spelled differently
to note: Anton's given name was Olsen with an E. Her brother Aless born in MN was Olson ( and changed it Olsen as an adult). Her brothers Arthur, Harold and sister Oline's last names changed to Olson, with an o. The Olson versus Olsen is interchanged in many legal documents. Alma Olsen is listed as Olson on census reports, as were her parents. Alma's middle name Kristina was listed as Christina on her death index report. This could be very confusing for the family history search info. Alma's sister Oline told her family about this often. even using her birth name if others looking to find her by how the census reports or death index spells her name differently. They are the same family, same parents, just different spelling. findagrave Memorial link is using Alma's given birth name, via her passport, birth certificate info rather than use the others. Alma's Mother Hannah Olsen's maiden name was Øverjordet when she was in Norway, then Jordet spelling inAmerica. Alma's sister Oline's maiden name spelled Olson on her birth information. Alma's brother Aless Olsen changed his name of Olson to Olsen after he was an adult as Olsen was Anton's given name in Norway. Much of the census reports for all the family spelled all their names Olson. Anton and Hannahs graves indicate Olson now. Alma came to USA as a baby and the documents provided verify 1901 immigration date. ( see family tree on Ancestry.com) All of Alma's Siblings now have Findagrave Memorials linked to their Parents Anton and Hannah Olson.

Our beloved Alma is buried in the Wadena
Cemetery. Alma is buried next to her
spouse John, son Merlin. Anton and Hannah
Olson, Alma's Parents are also buried at
the Wadena Cemetery. Many relatives are
buried at the Wadena Cemetery. Twin
Brothers Art & Harold Olson and their
Spouses are buried on the Calvary Cemetery
side of the adjoining Cemeteries. Two
Cemeteries next to each other, different
names. Art is buried next to his beloved
wife Evelyn Olson. Harold is buried next
to his beloved wife, Marion Olson. The
two Sisters Evelyn and Marion married
the Twin Olson Brothers.

Daughter Juliann Mae Wickstrom is buried at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Mpls. Brother Aless Olsen, his wife Dena Olsen, and their son Ronnie Olsen also buried at Crystal Lake Cemetery. Aless changed the spelling of his last name Olson to Olsen when he was an adult. Other Siblings kept the USA Olson last name.

Alma and John's Son talks about his
late beloved parents often. The Family
had many wonderful times...Especially
their yearly annual Fourth of July
Gatherings in Wadena and Holidays.
John said he was about 5 yrs old in
1942. John remembers how this time was
very bad time for their family was in
1942. His baby sister Juliann was 2 yrs
old. She passed away of Scarlet Fever
at home. The Family home was in
quarantine. Nobody could visit, they
could not go anywhere. His sister
Joyce, per her daughter was also ill
with scarlet fever, almost died and
spent 3 months at Sister Kinney Rehab
in Mpls. His most cherished memory
during that awful time was when his
Aunt Oline Olson Carlson and her
Husband Martin brought the children
Easter Baskets, came to visit when
they were not suppose to. Another
Sibling ( Art or Harold) did the same.
He came to visit. They risked getting
ill coming to the family home, but
the family needed them too at that
time. Our Families were close, bonded
by love. Family does not remember seeing
any pictures of Juliann. We are trying
to find one.

Alma and John helped care for Alma's
Sibling Aless's children during the
time their Son Ronnie was hospitalized
for his terminal illness. Ronnie and a
sibling had strep throat. Ronnie's
illness progressed to a serious medical
complications despite being in the
hospital a very long time. They dropped
their other children off at Alma and
John's Home when they visited their
dear young son Ronnie every day at
the U of MN Hospital. Another sad
time for the Family, losing a young
beloved child at a young age due
to serious illness.

Alma's Family lived in the Mpls MN area
a long time. Alma and spouse Jack moved
back to Wadena later in life. They lived
at the home once owned by Alma's
Parent Anton and Hannah Olson. Her
Parents home remained in the family
a long time. There is now a Casey's
Gas Station/Store built on that land.
Other Family members remained living
in the Mpls/ Twin Cities Metro area,
moved up north, back to Wadena,
other areas.

Our Family welcomes family history info,
photos, written memorial tributes.
Son John Wickstrom contributed to
his Mother Alma's Memorial and Father
John's Memorial. Grand Daughter
Gail Wenninger also contributed to
Alma's Memorial. Family would really
welcome more family photos.
