In the name of God, Amen. I, John Irwin of the County (formerly) of Northumberland, Yeoman, being very sick and weak in body; but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, Calling unto mind the Mortality of my Body, and knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to die, I make and ordain this my last Will and Testament; That is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my Soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it, and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be Buried in Decent Christian Burial, at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection, I shall receive the Same Again by the mighty power of God.
And as touching such Worldly Estate Wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me in this life, I give, devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: First, I allow Mary, my Beloved wife, to be Maintained out of my Estate until such times as said Estate shall be sold at the discretion of the Executors, and then I give, and bequeath unto said Mary, my wife, one hundred pounds of the State of Pennsylvania, to be levied out of my Estate, together with a young Bay Colt, now about nine months old, also one Cow to be her Choice, one Bed with the Bedclothes thereof, A Bake kettle, wheel, Reel, and a new Saddle. Also I give to my Son, John Irwin, and to my daughters Elizabeth and Ann, each five shillings.
Also, I give to my sons James Irwin, George Irwin, and Samuel Irwin, whom I constitute, make, and ordain the Sole Executors of this my last will and Testament: With Welch Irwin, Andrew Irwin, Alexandria Irwin, and Gavin Carlton Irwin with my Daughter Rosanna Irwin, the remainder of my Estate, and movable Effects, by them freely to be possessed, and enjoyed. Each of them share and share alike. And I do hereby ratify and confirm this, and no other to be my last will and Testament: In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal, this eighth day of February in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and ninety six. - John Irwin & Seal
Signed, sealed, published and Declared by the Said John Irwin as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us, who in his Presence, and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names. - Robert Lewis, William McClean & Thomas Hilands
