Obituary, Baltimore Gazette and Daily Advertiser, November 7, 1832: "On Sunday last in the 63d year of her age, Mrs. H. Buchanan, relict of the late William Buchanan.--The rules of action which regulated her conduct had their foundation in virtue, and were followed with remarkable steadiness, and firmness of purpose; the only distinctions she knew among her fellow creatures, were those which were marked by virtue or vice--to the 'pure in heart' in whatever walk of life they might be found, she was always a sincere friend. She was a model of contentment and cheerfulness--the language of complaint never escaped her lips--she addressed no appeals, even to the sympathy of those who were nearest and dearest to her. In the domestic virtues of industry and frugality she was especially exemplary, she practiced them however in no spirit of avarice, because without the affection of liberality, she was generous even to self denial--she has been called suddenly from amongst us at a time when life seemed full of enjoyment for her. Her memory will long be cherished by those who had an opportunity of appreciating the value of her character."

Daughter of David Brown and Susannah Paul.

Hephzibah birth recorded in Rahway/Plainfield MM and Haddonfield. In 1778, she was admitted/transferred into Haddonfield MM, along with her siblings in Camden, New Jersey. (photo).
