Augusta, GA – Mr. Samuel Arthur Bradley entered into rest on October 18th at home surrounded by family. Funeral Services were held October 22nd at 11:00 am at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. Mike Cash and Rev. Carolyn Moore officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Westover Memorial Park.

Sam was born in 1946 in King Ferry, New York, the oldest of five children. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Patricia Peterson Bradley, his daughter, Patricia Schmidt (Steve) and son, Milledge Peterson (Joanne), his beloved grandchildren, Caroline Bradley Schmidt, Julia Capers Schmidt, Samuel Milledge Peterson, Sarah Louise Schmidt, and Katherine Marian Peterson. Additional survivors include his brother, Edward Bradley (Susan) of Sacramento, CA, sisters, Margaret Jensen (Richard) of Dallas, TX, Victoria LaPorte and Jane Atkins of Portland, OR, his mother-in-law, Ruth Wilder of Augusta, GA, sisters-in-law, Alice Peterson of Richmond, VA, Nancy Vasquez (Jamie) of Brentwood, TN, brother-in-law, Gary Wilder (Laurie) of LaGrange, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Harlan H. and Claire Davis Bradley.

He graduated from Holtville Union High School, Holtville, CA in 1964 and then received a degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1968. He received his Masters of Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1969.

Sam served from 1968 – 1979 in the United States Navy Submarine Service Command achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His missions during the Cold War Era included service aboard the USS Puffer and USS Hammerhead.

He joined Southern Nuclear at Plant Vogtle in 1982 and retired in 2009. He was most recently employed by Westinghouse working with the new reactor project at Plant Vogtle.

Sam's two passions in life were his family and his church. Sam was a faithful servant to his church, Trinity on the Hill UMC, where he and Pat were members of the Pairs and Spares Sunday school class. He served in many leadership roles in the church, but his true calling was serving as the Lead Sound Technician for 29 years. Sam was an active leader in the youth ministry and specifically the Love Unlimited High School Choir where he and Pat spent many summers as choir tour chaperones.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors and staff of Family Physicians of Evans, Augusta Oncology, and Gentiva Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Mark Alexander, Jimmy McLeod, Bill Munn, Harold Nelson, Kevin Price, and Dean Smith. Honorary pallbearers are all the past and present members of Sam's Sound team at Trinity.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can by made to the Nehemiah Project at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA.
