Paul L. Garbe, Sr., 85, formerly of 432 5th St., Kiel, died Thursday morning, June 7, 2001 from Alzheimer's disease at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where he resided the past 3 ½ years.
He was born May 9, 1916 in the town of Sheboygan Falls, son of the late Henry and Emelie Meyer Garbe. He attended school in Rockville. On June 17, 1939, Paul married Agnes Mahloch at Ss. Peter and Paul Rectory in Kiel.
He was employed as a custodian at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, a former church usher and a member of the Holy Name Society. Paul enjoyed gardening, woodworking, puzzle books, playing cards and especially spending time with his children and their families.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes, a resident of Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein; four daughters, Dorothy (Ralph) Manz and Virginia (Kenneth) Schneider, both of Kiel, Rosann Dins and Kathryn (Ernie) Dyer Jr., both of New Holstein, 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
He is further survived by one son-in-law, Lyn Bignell of Eau Claire; one sister, Dorothy Prigge of Manitowoc; sisters-in-law, Lucille Garbe of Denmark, Elsie(Emro) Lemke of Hilbert and Clara Schweitzer and Rita Mahloch, both of Kiel, Esther Mahloch, Sheboygan Falls, and one brother-in-law, Jacob Mahloch of New Holstein.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patricia Bignell; one son, Paul R. Garbe Jr.; one infant sister; one sister, Norma Drews; six brothers, Edwin, Clarence, Walter, Herbert, Rueben and Arno Garbe; and in-laws, John and Lydia Mahloch.
A funeral Mass will be at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Loren Nys SDS officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
