Bernard M. "Bernie" Lawlor of San Angelo died peacefully at his home on Sept. 6, 1998, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 18, 1941, in Lewiston, Maine, the son of William T. and Mary Edith Lawlor. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force for 27 years, serving in the United States, Japan and Guam. He retired in 1985. For the past 13 years he had been employed by the San Angelo Independent School District as maintenance dispatcher. Mr. Lawlor, a caring unselfish advocate for special needs children and his wife, Lou, were foster parents to more than 75 children from 1982 to 1996. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cassandra Marie, who died in 1993 at the age of 13 and a grandson, Gary, who died in 1985. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Louisa Lawlor; two sons, Bernard M. Lawlor and wife, Sandra, of Lubbock and Wendall T. Lawlor of San Angelo; four daughters, Verrhonda Garduno and husband, Gary, Ann Sexton and husband, Randy, Margaret A. Lawlor and Rachel Lawlor, all of San Angelo; a sister, Mary (Mrs. Peter) Dionne of Augusta, Maine; a brother, William T. Lawlor of Potomac, Md.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and his uncle and aunt, Stephen and Lucille Crawley of Oakland, Maine. If desired, memorial contributions in his memory may be sent to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in San Angelo. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Military graveside rites will follow in Belvedere Memorial Park.
