He was a paternal great grand uncle of mine and he seemed to be quite the character. He was born in Alabama (probably Dallas or Etowah County), one of 15 children, all of whom would survive to adulthood. His family moved to near McKinney Texas by 1879, where they lived for about 10 years before moving to just south of Bullard Texas, although he may have stayed in McKinney Texas while the rest of the family moved to Bullard Texas. In 1896, he married Nannie Commons in McKinney Texas and they would have 2 girls, although one died at the age of 1 year. Mainly from newspaper articles, I learned that he was a talented horseman, participating in horse riding displays with his brothers. He was very active in civic matters, becoming an alderman in McKinney Texas as early as 1900 and being elected sheriff of Collin County Texas in 1933 serving until 1936. Given the time frame and locale of Collin County Texas, it is possible that he might have had some degree of participation in the pursuit of Bonnie and Clyde, although I have no direct evidence. After the death of his first wife, Nannie Commons in 1927, he married Mae Hall in 1933. He owned several stores throughout his lifetime, including "Walker's Horn Palace" and the "Collin County Trading Post", each noted for it's eclectic atmosphere and merchandise. He died in McKinney Texas in 1952 of a heart attack. If anyone has any pictures or information about him and his family, please contact me.
